Let Go and Live Free

This guest post is by my lovely wife Raewyn.  It is her review of the book, “Let Go: Live free of the burdens all women know” by Sheila Walsh.

I think everybody gets a few bumps and bruises in their journey through life … and they’re the lucky ones!  Sheila Walsh’s “Let Go” … live free of the burdens all women know … goes to the heart of what holds us back.  Whilst this book is aimed at women I don’t see it as being relevant just to women.  The reality is that we all carry burdens … and unless we can get free of them, as time goes on, more get added and before we know it, we’re so weighted down, we wonder why we don’t seem to be going anyway.

Recently when I was having coffee with a friend she shared something of the challenges she was facing and what struck me was how in the midst of all that, her response was to lean in closer to God, and hang on more tightly to Him.  I see Sheila’s “Let Go” helping to teach us just that …  acknowledging the past.  Acknowledging that the pain is real, but then looking up and seeing something bigger, something greater and taking the steps towards that.  I think that’s probably the thing that I got most out of this book.  Often we get so bogged down, looking down, into the detail.  But if we could just look up and see the bigger picture, then we probably wouldn’t sweat the small stuff so much, because the bigger picture would be what filled out lives and inspired us.  Letting go of the burdens should be a matter of course.

I found this to be an enjoyable read.  The chapters have been written as individual studies and there’s time to reflect and ponder and I think you have to do that if you want this book to really make a difference, rather than just be a good read.
