Oh come on Paul, you’re not going to suggest that GTD* makes your sex life better too! Is there anything you don’t think can be achieved by GTD?
I think its best if I leave my sex life off these pages but I can definitely say that I’ve found family life is best when the following statements are true:
1. Mum and Dad are able to have time together
Yepper, even when there are rug rats scampering around the floor demanding attention, the most important thing a couple can do for their family is to make sure they don’t ignore each other.

A good productivity methodology really will help in making sure this happens (and GTD is a “great” productivity methodology).
2. Conflicts are resolved
Resolving conflicts fairly and successfully is a necessity in a good marriage. GTD does absolutely nothing to help you learn just how to resolve those times of argument – oops, debate. But if you’re stressed out because one or both of you isn’t on top of things at work, then not only will conflict be even harder to resolve, there’ll be more of it.
Having lived with GTD for a wee while now I can confirm that my stress levels are way down.
3. Both Parents get quality time with the kids
Ask any child. Would they rather have a Dad who spends all his hours at work, providing everything the kid wants, or a few less presents, but a Dad who plays catch in the back yard and goes to the zoo with them. It’s a no-brainer, but one we get wrong all too often.

Once again, if you can either get your work done quicker or, and this is more likely, just work on the right and important things, you’ve got a chance to get a win/win here! Don’t believe me? Give it a proper try first!
4. Family stress levels are low
I think good family life and good relationships within are worst when stress is ultra high. We’ve all entered rooms where we could cut the atmosphere with a knife. We’ve probably all been in situations where we were too scared to say something because of how we thought someone else would react. Probably, if we’re being truthful, we’ve all been that person that others walk on eggshells around too.
Do you have a story of how GTD has helped you with your family life? Leave me a comment and I’ll highlight the best story in a post at a later stage.
