eProductivity Journals and Knowledge Management

The more I look into “Getting Things Done” (GTD), eProductivity, and productivity in general, the more I realise just how little I know about Knowledge Management.

I’ve cleared my head, my projects and actions are organised but the useful bits of information I’ve acquired are starting to blur…

Why does this matter?  Do I have to be a KM expert?

Well, I’m realising more and more that my productivity is adversely affected by poor practices on my part.

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned…

Time for a confession:  Everything that I’ve been getting in via email that hasn’t gone into a project or action has been placed within a folder in my email system.  Including attachments of all sort and size.

I know Lotus Notes have “Journals” but I never really knew what they were and why you would use on except to keep a computer based personal diary.  But Eric Mack has pointed out to me that these journals are much more than that.  So much so, that the special template that eProductivity uses for the journal was renamed “Reference Database” to avoid this misconception.

I realised just how much I was missing out on when during a conversation with Eric he highlighted a brand new feature within eProductivity’s reference database.  (Actually the new feature is about a true way to “journal” within the database, but I’ll post on that separately soon.)

So my journey takes another step…

Yes, this blog is about productivity, but knowledge management seems to be a logical progression (or is it all so intertwined that you can’t really separate it all out?)

So as well as straight GTD and eProductivity postings, expect to see more about knowledge management as I take my first tentative steps along the path.

NOTE:  I suspect David Allen would say GTD covers this base too and well it may…

I’d be most interested in your thoughts.
