eProductivity Day 3

Let me say this loud and long…

I’ve always worked hard and have the ability to get through a lot and, if asked,  I would have said, (and believed), that all that hard work produced good results.  But eProductivity (from Eric Mack) has proved me wrong.  I now see opportunity after opportunity to actually start working (still hard) on important things instead of urgent things.  And I expect what I do from now on to have a much greater impact, both in terms of amount of impact and the significance of that impact!

You’ll recall that late last week I installed eProductivity for Lotus Notes with a view to properly implementing GTD (David Allen).  In the past, I’ve tried to use David’s system but it had always been too cumbersome trying to have little parts of the system talk to each other (Email with To Do lists with Projects with electronic filing with calendar etc).  So things would always fall over and I wouldn’t be able to truly trust the system.  And once you stop trusting the system you start trying to keep everything in your head again.

With eProductivity the install went really well (I need to blog about this because I’m a Lotus Notes noob) and late last week I processed all my electronic mail and inboxes.  At this stage my office looked like this…

This morning, I went about the collection of my physical inbox (which was pretty much my whole office!) and actually just put it all in a physical inbox (note the inbox on the left of the desk…

And at 3pm I have processed that inbox…

I started the processing with some trepidation and questions on my mind…  Maybe I should review the comprehensive video run through again first?  What if I want to add an action to an existing project?  What if I want to add a calendar event and an action and send an email?

Happily I can tell you, if you have the same concerns, to let your mind rest easy.  The whole thing was extremely intuitive (unusual for Lotus Notes!) and so simple that my only concern at the end was that I may have missed something out!  But no, it was all successfully captured and in a format that made sense.  The only thought I had as I processed was that the need to click the today flag at the top of the panel seems counter-intuitive and maybe an option near the start date would be handy.

Mind you, if that’s the best I can do when looking for improvements then I’ve got nothing to complain about.

The absolute best things about this so far is being able to access all the necessary documentation from one place, along with tying in actions to projects with ease.

Next post – My first weekly review

Thanks for sharing your experience, Paul, I’ve captured your idea to have the Today flag in the actual Project and Action forms. I do not recall if that was ever on a feature list but it’s now in the queue. Nice, clean desk you have there!
