TweetDeck aces twitter Facebook and linkedin

I’ve decided to go back to TweetDeck for Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn!

I would love to see TweetDeck have tabbed viewing!

To me TweetDeck has always been the best desktop client to use for Twitter but because I’m on a “locked down” computer supplied by a business there have been issues.

Issue one:

For some reason every time TweetDeck updates that will not do so without administrator privileges.  This is really a pain because it means contacting my IT department, getting them to remote to my machine and install the update.  It’s especially awkward because the update executable file doesn’t have a run as administrator option.

Issue two:

Because TweetDeck runs on the Adobe Air platform I have the same issues with updating the platform also.

The Good News

But the latest TweetDeck (0.32.0) has enough features that the good heavily outweighs the bad.

So here are the features

that make me love TweetDeck:

  • It gives me the option to reach week using the new Twitter style or the old-style;
  • It has a great way to manage Twitter lists;
  • You can choose which parts of your Facebook or LinkedIn (news or status etc);
  • It manages multiple accounts very well;
  • You can sync it across computers;
  • And so much more as well.

There is one additional thing I would love to see TweetDeck have and that would be the introduction of tabbed viewing.  I have a multiple columns open and being able to group them in tabs would be the icing on the cake.

Hi Paul, great to have you back on the ‘Deck :)

I’m really glad you find v0.32 a big enough improvement to put up with some IT admin headaches.
We have toyed with the idea of tabs for a while. Improving the UI is certainly something we are pushing very hard now, as shown by the great new screens in this release. So tabs, or something like that, may well come along in the future as we seek to help you make TweetDeck even easier to manage.

Cheers!

The question is are you tweeting for your company’s proprietary or are you tweeting for yourself?

Company, it’s time for a brainstorming meeting for IT to do their job. You, this is the dillema of being a blogger on someone else’s dime. If the twitter account isn’t company proprietary, you’re doing personal sidework/hobby/etc on their time.

If ‘you’ and the company bought into supporting your blogging/twittering as bring them ‘value’ (such as 3M and others did for years), then it falls back on IT to be told they’re not meeting expectations.

That’s great to hear Richard. Is there anywhere I can go to “vote” for this feature?

Although I understand your question, it’s not really the right one in my type of job where my role (pastor) intersects so much with my personal life.

Also, it’s not so much an IT issue (as they are happy to process the updates when I ask).

It’s much more that I’d love it if TweetDeck updates could run without the need for admin rights (like so many other program updates seem to).
