ANZAC Day

by Paul on 25 April 2009

Today we commemorate the attempt to capture Gallipoli in 1915 during WWI and remember all New Zealanders (and Australians) who have gone to war.

Last year my good friend Gavin Knight said that,

It is, in a very real sense, the day on which we feel most united as a nation.

I wholeheartedly agree.  It’s become a tradition for my daughter and I to attend the Johnsonville Parade and tomorrow we continue this.  Although this time, we’re being joined by many others from our church, The Salvation Army Johnsonville.

They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

Laurence Binyon (1869-1943)
